Purcellville, VA (Feb 2, 2016) – Due to damage to the Loudoun Valley main gym, caused by our region’s historic snowstorm, all three Freedom Lady Eagles girls basketball teams played Loudoun Valley on the Lady Vikings’ auxiliary gym. However, the secondary space is really only that by name because the quality of this floor is almost as good as the main gym, just smaller.
From the outset of the JV game, it was clearly Freedom’s night. Every loose ball and every rebound seemed to wind up in the Eagles’ claws–and the visitors’ basket was a welcome recipient, too. The halftime score was 23-5 and the gap only widened by games end. Final score: Freedom 50 – Loudoun Valley 11.
The varsity nightcap was much tighter, but after a slightly slow start the Vikings took command and held the lead at the end of each quarter. The level of hustle, effort and skill was virtually equal, yet the halftime difference was a solid twelve points. Freedom played with a gritty determination and actually cut the lead to four with a minute remaining, but the Vikings didn’t miss from the charity stripe and held on for the win. Final score: Loudoun Valley 63 – Freedom 55.
