Aldie, VA (February 3, 2017) – What could be better? In the final matchup of the season, in front of a packed crowd, rivals Freedom and John Champe had the title at stake. The Eagles sported a better overall record, but there was no separation in conference standings–and the Knights had home court advantage.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
From the outset, Champe took full advantage. Led by Dom Fragala, they vaulted to a surprising first quarter lead of 23-6. Freedom chipped away at the margin, but never held the lead until surging midway through the fourth quarter. The Knights had a chance to extend the game into overtime, but could not sink a tying basket late.
Final score: Freedom 67 – John Champe 63.
