Sterling, VA (May 30, 2016) – After their masterful defeat of top-seeded Heritage in the conference final, Park View’s placement in the 4A West Regionals was well-earned. Coming with that placement was a matchup with the less-heralded Fauquier Falcons, the second seed from Conference 22. Chas Sumser was there to cover the action and posted a gallery of 108 images.
Final Score: Park View 3 – Fauquier 1
On paper this should have been an easy victory for the Patriots. After an initial flurry in their own defensive end, Park View’s Rember Garcia blasted a twenty-yard shot into the back of the net and it looked like the predictions were probably right. For the rest of the first half Park View kept the ball in the Falcons’ end, but they could not muster a score past the plucky red defense.
At 12:15 of the second half, Garcia scored his second goal of the night, and Park View immediately went into a possession game easily controlling the flow and putting Fauquier into a typically fruitless “run and chase” mode. Except this time Fauquier’s Enrique Mejia teed one up and cut the lead in half with about ten minutes remaining. The visitors pushed everyone forward and had a couple more good chances, but Park View was able to exploit the opposing strategy which led to a breakaway and game-sealing goal for Obdulio Funez.
