Leesburg, VA (May 20, 2016) – Although the Dominion Titans had to play a quarterfinal game to arrive at the higher-seeded Heritage High School, there wasn’t much separating the two teams. The Titans finished the regular season 9-7-1 and the Pride had a 6-5-5 record. Heritage won the first meeting, 1-0, but the two teams tied in the second match. Chas Sumser was at the semi-final meeting to cover the action and posted a gallery of 117 images.
Final Score: Heritage 4 – Dominion 3
Just over twenty minutes into the game, Heritage had a stunning 3-0 lead. Everything was going their way as the second half began, and continued that way until the midpoint of the period. Just when you thought it was over, well, it wasn’t.
A Dominion goal by Emma Shine seemed to ignite the Titans, and they poured it on for the next ten minutes quickly scoring twice more to knot the score at 3-3. But, with under six minutes remaining, Kathryn Counts scored for the Pride off a rebound of a free kick sealing the victory and propelling Heritage to the Conference 21B championship.
