Ashburn (May 22, 2015) – On Friday, May 22, Broad Run High School welcomed four Conference 14 semi-final game opponents: Freedom High School in baseball, Tuscarora High School in softball and boys soccer, and Stone Bridge High School in girls soccer. Chas Sumser photographed all four games and posted this photo gallery with 225 images as they happened.
Hosting means you’re the higher seed and so Broad Run entered all of the contests as the favorite. But in both softball and baseball, the visitors jumped out to early leads. The underdog Tuscarora girls increased and held on to their advantage, but the Spartans roared back to win in baseball. In girls soccer, Broad Run had and easier, not easy, time with Stone Bridge and won 2-0.
The game of the night was the last one as the underdog Huskies went toe-to-toe with Broad Run in boys soccer. Early on, the Spartans peppered the Tuscarora goal, but couldn’t finish. Bur, clearly, the Tuscarora game plan was to control the midfield and look for that one break. They got it about midway through the second half and took a surprising 1-0 lead. It was a scramble in the Huskies defensive third the rest of the way even after Broad Run was shown red and played a man down. Huskies advance to the conference final.
