Purcellville, VA (February 16, 2017) – The Loudoun Valley Vikings entered the game with a regular season championship already in hand and a record only blemished once — by Heritage, their championship opponent.
The Pride had every right to be confident as they finished with a conference record identical to the Vikings at 9-1. However, Loudoun Valley earned the tournament’s top seed with a deciding game just a week ago.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
In front of a raucous home crowd Loudoun Valley bolted to an early lead and never looked back. The first quarter margin was thirteen points, and Heritage never really got it much below ten.
The Vikings’ smothering defense was the story of the night. The Pride’s typically methodical and poised offense struggled to find their rhythm and got off only a few uncontested shots.
Final score: Loudoun Valley 69 – Heritage 55.
