Potomac Falls, VA (Apr 18, 2016) – The Broad Run High School Spartans visited the Potomac Falls High School Panthers for a warm spring night of girls soccer just a few weeks away from conference tournament play. Chas Sumser was there to cover the action and posted a varsity gallery of 92 images and a JV gallery of 107 images.
The JV game was very close, but much of the action was in the Panther defensive half, and their offense had fewer good chances than Broad Run. Scoring midway through the first half, the Spartans never looked back and added a second goal midway through the second half to ice the game.
Final score: Broad Run 2 – Potomac Falls 0.
The Varsity match was a much more even affair. Potomac Falls had a slight possession advantage in the first half, but couldn’t score a goal to solidify that edge. Oh, wait a minute, yes they did! Just seconds before the halftime whistle, the Panthers’ Kristen Patrick beat the Broad Run keeper off an assist from Maddie Patrick to take a lead and the momentum into the break.
But Broad Run would not give up and pushed hard in the second half. About midway through, they got the chance they needed and Maddy Kopecky came off the bench to score and tie the game. That score remained through the rest of the period and two overtimes. Another example of just how tough this group of Loudoun teams is this season.
Final score: Broad Run 1 – Potomac Falls 1.
