Leesburg, VA (September 1, 2016) – After a summer of intense heat and virtually no precipitation, a thirty-minute rain/lightning delay came out of the blue. Literally. But the end result was a bit lower temperature and a little less humidity. Oh, and a nice rainbow to boot.
Viva Loudoun was there to capture the action and posted a gallery of images from the game.
Briar Woods 2 – Tuscarora 0
Entering the match, Tuscarora sported the better record. At 4-1-0, their only loss had come at the hands of the powerful Heritage eleven, who are applying the “mercy rule” in just about every game they play.
Briar Woods, on the other hand, had a more even set of results coming in at 2-2-1. The Falcons had just beaten Loudoun County, 5-0, so their confidence was higher than their record might indicate.
In a very evenly played first half, both teams fought hard. But about fifteen minutes in, the score was Sara Davis 2 – Tuscarora 0. The diminutive Falcon senior forward gamely battled the Husky goalie for loose balls, and amidst a clashing of sticks and feet found a way to poke the ball into the net twice.
Somewhat surprisingly, that’s all the scoring Briar Woods would need. The remainder of the match went back and forth with only a few other solid scoring chances for either team. To Tuscarora’s credit, they never gave up and made the game competitive for the duration.
