Leesburg, VA (November 9, 2016) – The Tuscarora Huskies had been in regional playoffs in many other sports, but this was the first time ever for volleyball. That might explain why the team looked nervous, tentative, and tight in the first set. Their opponent, the Albemarle Patriots, was just the opposite. They stormed on to the court with a fiery attack from the first point and surprised the home team with a 25-19 win.
But that would not be the story of the match.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted this gallery from the match.
Demonstrating a maturity that will serve them well as they continue their playoff run, coach and players regrouped during the first break and reversed the first result with a second set win, 25-20. The Huskies had clearly adjusted to the dinks and dunks that had worked for the Patriots earlier, and completely wiped out that strategy.
Once the crazy Tusky Terror section filled in with helmeted football players, the momentum only intensified. Tuscarora cruised through the third set, winning easily 25-15 and setting up the potential to advance to the regional semi-finals. That goal was realized as the Huskies won their third straight set to take the match 3-1.
Now with a chance to reach their first regional final, Tuscarora will host Massaponax on Thursday, November 10, 6:30pm.
