Purcellville, VA (February 22, 2017) – The heavily favored Loudoun Valley Vikings had every right to feel confident about their game against the William Fleming Colonels. But that was before starting point guard Jalen Williams was forced out of the game with an injury. Perhaps this region semifinal test was going to be harder than the home team first thought.
Chas Sumser, Viva Loudoun photographer, was there to capture the action and emotion and posted a gallery of images from the game.
Well, it wasn’t really that hard at all. The Viking bench is deep and disciplined, and their system works even when they have to interchange parts. Rather than lose any confidence without Williams, the team came out patient and controlled in front of a packed and raucous gym.
Despite the frenetic pace of the visitors, Loudoun Valley quickly put distance between themselves and any thought of not making the region final. Their eighteen-point halftime lead pretty much stayed intact the rest of the way.
The Colonels cut the margin to ten in the final quarter, but the Vikings finished with a sensational slam by Jordan Miller that elated the Jungle fans and put the game out of reach.
Final score: Loudoun Valley 73 – William Fleming 57.
