Purcellville, VA (Feb 25, 2016) – As the playoffs progress, the competition is sure to get tougher–and sometimes a bit taller. You could see in the William Fleming Colonels warmups that the space under the basket was going to be crowded on either end of the court, but you also knew that the Loudoun Valley Vikings had played with gritty determination all season so they would be up for the challenge.

A big difference in this game turned out to be the Colonels’ height advantage as layups that would normally go in easily for the Vikings were swatted away on more than one occasion, which meant a more significant reliance on outside shooting. To their credit, the Vikings continued to battle–and shoot well from the perimeter–and the game was virtually deadlocked at the end of three quarters. But the Colonels surged to start the fourth, and held on to a lead that sent them on to the region championship.
Final score: William Fleming 48 – Loudoun Valley 41.
