Harrisonburg, VA (Mar 4, 2016) – When the John Champe Knights took the court to face the Eastern View Cyclones they were already the only Loudoun County high school remaining in the 2016 Virginia State Basketball Tournament. The Loudoun Valley Girls, Tuscarora Girls, Potomac Falls Boys, and Loudoun Valley Boys had all lost. As the number two seed from the West, the Knights were sure to face a tough number three team from the East. Would anyone from Loudoun be playing on Monday?
Chas Sumser was there to cover the action and posted a photo gallery including 72 images.
The answer was a resounding, “yes!” Out-hustling the Cyclones right from the start, the hot-shooting Knights essentially won the game in the first quarter. With a lead of 26-17, they were never really threatened after that. By the end of the third quarter, the Knights were ahead to stay–leading by 20 points–and began giving bench players opportunities to appear in a state-level game. With the starters back in to finish it out, Loudoun County most definitely has a solid contender in the state semi-finals.
Final score: John Champe 85 – Eastern View 61.
