Brambleton, VA (April 20, 2017) – TARZAN – The Stage Musical – swings onto the Rock Ridge HS stage Friday, April 21, with performances through Saturday, May 13.
Based on Disney’s animated musical film and Edgar Rice Burrough’s legendary Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features riveting music by rock legend, Phil Collins, and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits, like the Golden Globe and Academy Award winning “You’ll Be in My Heart,” as well as “Son of Man” and “Two Worlds,” make Tarzan an astonishing theatrical experience.
Shipwrecked off the coast of Africa, his parents killed by the vengeful leopard Sabor, the baby Tarzan is saved by the maternal gorilla Kala much to the disapproval of Kerchak, the Silverback leader of the band of gorillas. Apart from striving for acceptance from his great ape father and concocting adventures with best-friend Terk, the grown-up Tarzan is content with life in the jungle until he meets the English woman, Jane Porter, who is on an expedition with her scientist-father and the untrustworthy guide Clayton. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion, as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.
