Sterling (Sept. 30, 2013) – Park View High School varsity wrestling coach Greg Mitchell is stepping down after 33 years with the Patriots program.
Mitchell was an assistant to the late head coach Mac Piercy for 13 years and then he has been head coach for the past 20 years. During his tenure in Sterling Park, he had the opportunity to coach and work with outstanding student-athletes. Since being a part of the program, Mitchell has had over 110 state placers with 10 state champions, 175 region placers, with 30 regional championships. The Patriots have also had 90 district champions come through the program. Mitchell has lead the program to over 270 team wins.
In addition, he also had the opportunity to work with outstanding athletes within the other programs. He was a varsity assistant softball coach for several seasons, helping the team to one state championship and he also spent several years as an assistant football coach, working under the great Mickey Thompson, who is now at Stone Bridge High School.
Mitchell will continue to teach at Park View High School and spend time watching his college son and high school daughters athletic careers grow.
