(March 25, 2014) – Park View High School senior Emilee Pierson has committed to continue her volleyball career under head coach Andrea Hoover at Virginia Wesleyan College beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year.
With her commitment, Pierson becomes one of six Park View Patriot seniors to commit to play a collegiate sport this school year.
“I feel very relieved and excited now that I finally committed, and I can’t wait to be a Marlin,” said the 5-foot-5 Pierson. “When I did my official visit, I just fell in love with coach Hoover, the team and location. I immediately knew it was the right school for me.”
Coach Hoover led the Division III Marlins to a 16-14 mark in 2013, posting a 7-4 record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference before falling to Roanoke College, 3-0, in the conference quarterfinals on Nov. 6. Hoover will enter her ninth season at the helm of the Virginia Wesleyan program accumulating a 153-97 record over her tenure as the Marlins’ head coach.
“I’ve always been commended for my hard work, work ethic and intensity. I think I would bring that to the team and make a positive impact,” said Pierson who will set for the Marlins.
Before her 203-mile journey to Norfolk, Pierson will finish her high school days at Park View where she played for the Patriots’ volleyball, basketball and soccer teams. Last fall, the Patriots’ volleyball squad finished 5-13 winning their final match of the season over Dominion High School, 3-1, on Oct. 30.
Born in Reston, Pierson plays club volleyball for NV Premier, but did not even start playing volleyball until tenth grade.
“I have been playing soccer and basketball since I was four, but I didn’t discover volleyball until my sophomore year,” Pierson said. “My high school soccer coach suggested I try volleyball, and I immediately fell in love with the game and its fast pace and intensity. I try to be the best in everything I do so I’m constantly pushing myself to reach the next level.”
