Ashburn, Va. (July 29, 2014) – Duane Minnick, the band director and Fine Arts Department Chair at Briar Woods High School, is a quarterfinalist for The Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.
222 music educators from 208 cities in 41 states have earned the quarterfinalist stage from an initial field of more than 7,000 nominations. This award was established to recognize current educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced in September.
Minnick is the only band director at Briar Woods, which opened in 2005. In addition, he has been a professional marching band drill writer for 30 years, designing drills for many bands across the country.
