Leesburg, Va. (February 17, 2015) – Tuscarora High School’s Marching Huskies have accepted an invitation to represent Virginia in the 2015 Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Each year, only one band is selected to represent Virginia in the parade.
The parade theme is “remembering the past and celebrating our future.” It honors veterans and their families while recognizing that once bitter enemies can become loyal friends and allies.
The 2015 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade (to be held December 7) marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. The official signing of the Japanese surrender took place aboard the USS Missouri, now anchored at Pearl Harbor. In addition to the parade, the All-American Mass Band and the All-American Mass Choir will perform at the USS Missouri.

The Hawaiian honor came on the heels of the Marching Huskies claiming their first superior rating at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) State Marching Assessment. (Tuscarora received superior ratings in Music Performance, Visual Performance and General Effect.)
Previously, the Marching Huskies won competitions for Division III A at the Marine Corps Invitational and first place overall at the Shenandoah Valley Marching Invitational.
The show that won these competitions was titled “Spring.” “Spring” features the music of Aaron Copeland arranged by John Mills and Jared Dumale. The Marching Huskies are under the direction of Katie Newmiller.
