Purcellville, VA (September 14, 2015) – The seventh class of the Loudoun Valley Viking Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted on September 25 during the halftime ceremonies of the Dominion vs. Loudoun Valley High School football game.
This year’s class will feature seven outstanding athletes, a former coach, and a contributor to the athletic program at the school.
This year’s inductees include:
Lewis Owens (1973) recipient of the 1972 Outstanding Loudoun Valley Football Player award.
Austin Thomas (1979) was an outstanding basketball player who held the Loudoun Valley High School total points record during his era and was the basketball athlete of the year his senior year.
Avery Howard (1987) was the 1986 state high jump champion, an outstanding basketball player, and the Loudoun Valley Male Athlete of the year his senior year.
Chris Doran (1991) was a first team all-Met and a two-time first team all-state soccer player. He is the first soccer player to be inducted into the Loudoun Valley Hall of Fame.
Jennifer Cooper Barlow (1994) received the Outstanding Female Athlete Award her senior year and was a three-time all-MET gymnast and a track and field standout. She is the first gymnast to be inducted.
Trip Wilhelm (1999), a three-sport athlete, was the 1999 Loudoun Times Mirror Male Athlete of the Year, Loudoun Valley Male Athlete of the year and honorable mention Loudoun Times Mirror All-Time Best Athletes.
Jennifer Everhart Long (2005) was a member of the 2003 State Champion Softball Team, the 2004 State Champion Volleyball Team and the 2004 Washington Post All-Extra Softball Player of the Year.
Coach Archie Moore served as a head baseball and assistant football coach during the 1971-2005 eras at Loudoun Valley.
Mr. Frank Ortiz is being inducted for his fifteen years as a contributor from 1975-1989.
The inductees will be honored at a reception prior to the game and will be formally introduced at halftime. Each recipient will have their name and accomplishments inscribed on an individual plaque which will be mounted on the Hall of Fame Wall located between the two gymnasiums at the school. The Loudoun Valley Viking Athletic Association sponsors and funds the annual event.
