(July 24, 2013) – Loudoun Valley High School 6-foot-7 wing Paul Rowley has verbally committed to play men’s basketball at NCAA Division I William & Mary starting in 2014-15.
Rowley, according to Rivals.com, also had offers from Brown, Bucknell, Cornell, Dartmouth, George Mason, Harvard, Lafayette, Loyola (MD), Mount St. Mary’s, St. Francis (PA), and Yale. He informed the William and Mary coaching staff of his decision Wednesday morning.
“I had so many good schools to choose from. I loved the coaches at William & Mary. I loved the players at William & Mary and I love the school,” said Rowley.
Rowley said that William & Mary recruited him the hardest out of all the schools interested and that the Tribe will use him as a forward who can play on the perimeter in a similar role that he has played in high school.
“They play the forward off ball screens and it’s a role I have flourished in,” said Rowley.
An added bonus is that his older sister will be attending law school at William & Mary.
He thinks the early decision will take some pressure off of his senior season in Purcellville.
“I think I will enjoy it more. It will still be work but I can take a deep breath and relax a little,” said Rowley.
Other than celebrating his college decision, Rowley is ready to unwind and head to the beach with his family next week.
“Basketball is over for the summer and I can be a normal 16-year-old kid,” said Rowley.
