(Nov. 12, 2013) – Loudoun high school girls volleyball teams rolled over the competition Tuesday night in the regional quarterfinals with all five schools in action winning and four of them in quick sweeps.
Tuscarora (19-6) had the most dramatic win as the Huskies took the first two sets on the road at Albemarle in the 5A North match-up and then lost the next two sets. Tuscarora, the third seed out of crazy tough Conference 14, won 15-9 in the fifth set to advance.
The Huskies will play Thursday in a 6:30 p.m. regional semifinal at Broad Run (20-9), which swept Brooke Point on the road Tuesday. The winner of the semifinal will clinch a State Final Four spot and a trip to Saturday’s regional finals.
Conference 14 champion Stone Bridge (23-2) swept past Massaponax at home Tuesday in a 5A North quarterfinal and will travel to Conference 13 champion Thomas Jefferson on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the other semifinal. The 5A North bracket is predetermined when it comes to No. 1 seeds facing each other.
In 4A North, Loudoun County (27-0) remained unbeaten with a sweep over Fauquier on Tuesday. The Raiders are at home on Thursday against Fluvanna County at 7 p.m. with the winner advacing to Saturday’s finals and also clinching a trip to VCU and the State Final Four. The Raiders won five of the last six state titles in the old classification AA.
In 3A East, Loudoun Valley (16-9) swept Spotsylvania and the Vikings will host Lafayette on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a semifinal with a shot at the State Final Four and a regional finals spot on the line.

The Huskies stormed out of the gate to take a 2-0 lead on Albermarle, keeping pace with other Loudoun County teams in action last night but the Patriots did not give up without a fight taking sets 3 and 4 from the Huskies in convincing fashion. The coaching staff calmed the Huskies before the 5th and final set and reassured them they could get the job done. The Huskies dug deep and played excellent defensively in the 5th set to put all the pressure on the Patriots who committed several unforced errors giving the Huskies a 15-9 victory and carrying them into the 5A Regional Semi-Finals. The Huskies will travel to Broad Run to battle their conference foe for the third time this season.
4A North Region
Loudoun County def. Fauquier, 3-0 (25-3, 25-10, 25-12)
The Skinny from the Raiders: Loudoun County came out smoking their way to a dominant 25-3 victory in set 1, and then put on the cruise control for a 3-0 sweep 25-3, 25-10, 25-12 in the 4A North Region Quarterfinal. The Lady Raiders were led to victory by Maggie Phillips (10 kills, 7 digs, 5 service points, 2 blocks, 2 aces), Jane Feddersen (8 kills, 6 blocks), Taylor Borup (7 kills, 1 block, 1 dig), Olivia Aycock (3 kills), Mandy Powers (21 assists, 2 blocks, 1 dig, 2 service points), Hannah Vandegrift (2 assists, 1 kill,), Kelsey Slack (12 service points, 3 aces, 1 dig), Kelsey Anderson (14 service points, 6 digs, 2 aces), Hannah Brenneman (9 service points, 4 digs, 3 aces), Emily Solis (7 service points, 1 ace), Ciara Kain (1 kill, 1 block, 1 dig), Rachel Voketaitis (2 kills, 1 block), Alyssa Paige (2 service points, 1 dig). Loudoun County improves to 27-0 on the season and extends their winning streak to 45 matches dating back to last year. The Raiders continue postseason action on Thursday as they host the semifinal of the 4A North Region Tournament versus Fluvanna County at 7:00 PM.
