(Jan. 14, 2014) – The Loudoun County High School gymnastics team continued its torrid 2014 pace by winning a second invitational title in as many weekends as the Raiders took home the Harrisonburg Invitational championship on Saturday. The Raiders scored 130.375 to out-distance local rival Loudoun Valley (121.9). Woodgrove (99.25), Park View (91.5) and Heritage (59.525) were also at the 7-team meet.
The Raiders were lead once again by junior Victoria Miner who placed 1st in the All Around 35.65, 1st on vault 9.3, 2nd on bars 8.1, 1st on beam 9.05, and 1st on floor 9.2.
Senior Hannah Powell Placed 2nd on floor 9.025, 3 rd on bars 8.0, 2nd on vault 8.8 and 3rd all around 33.525. Senior Alex Lord placed 3rd on vault 8.6, 6th on bas 6.95 and 6th all around
Senior Annie Asai placed 5th on beam 7.825, and 4th on vault 8.5. Sophomore Ashleigh Wright placed 4th on beam 8.075. Contributing to the team were Bridget Gambogi on bars.
The Raiders will travel to Potomac Falls on January 15 for a 6-team meet that opens at 6:30 p.m.
Also hitting the podium at Harrisonburg was Helen Sternberg of Loudoun Valley, 4th on the bars; and Loudoun Valley’s Bria Lloyd, 5th on the bars. Lloyd was 2nd on the beam and Sternberg 6th. Sternberg took 4th on the floor as well. In the All Around, Sternberg and Lloyd finished 4-5.
