Ashburn, VA (March 14, 2015) – A BIG SHOUT OUT to the Loudoun Basketball Charity Classic for being great ambassadors of the following two great charities. The 2nd Annual Loudoun Basketball Charity Classic is underway this weekend, March 13-15, at Belmont Ridge Middle School, Eagle Ridge Middle School, Smarts Mill Middle School and Harper Park! The two charities selected to support this year; Kids NOW Network and Team Mathias. The goal of this community event is to raise $20,000 to split between both charities. Currently, they are already three quarters of the way there. Last year $10,000 was raised for the Smashing Walnuts charity.
Kids NOW Network – Born in Loudoun this project is dedicated to supporting under served children in Loudoun that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional county and federal resources. Unlike most resources available to children enduring hardship, Kids NOW embraces each family situation independently and allots specific circumstance and sensitive aid.
Team Mathias – Mathias Giordano, from Leesburg, and was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, cancer of the bone, in July of 2012. After a courageous fight with the disease, Mathias succumbed to it’s will on December 7th, 2014. The mission of Team Mathias is to help support all families family during their childs battle with Osteosarcoma while raising awareness for ALL Childhood Cancers.
Local community members and businesses have volunteered their time and support of this important event. Loudoun Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS) provided gym space at no cost, Potomac Valley Officials Association (PVOA) (referees), Crown Trophy of Ashburn (trophies), Corporate Press (graphics, web and social media) and Viva Loudoun (online advertising) and many communities are volunteering their time at each site to collect donations and sell t-shirts. A huge thanks for community organizations coming together as a team to support two great charities!
