Loudoun County, Va. (April 1, 2015) – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office graduated four members of the agency’s leadership staff from the 36th session of the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS).
1st Lt. Mike Cox, a 19-year veteran, 1st Lt. Ken Pratt, a nearly 26-year-veteran, 1st Lt. Charles Richardson, a 17-year veteran, and 2nd Lt. Jaime Sanford, a 13-year veteran, graduated March 19th from the intensive three-week leadership education program.
1st Lt. Mike Cox serves in the Courts and Corrections Division and it was recently announced he will be promoted to Captain later this month. 1st Lt. Ken Pratt is currently assigned to the Operational Support Division, 1st Lt. Charles Richardson is currently assigned to the Courts and Corrections Division and 2nd Lt. Jaime Sanford is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. 2nd Lt. Sanford was presented the PELS Graduate Leadership Award. Sanford was selected by her peers from the session for demonstrating outstanding leadership abilities throughout the PELS program.
“The PELS Program ensures our leadership staff will continue to receive training at the highest levels to continue to improve service, efficiency and professionalism in the agency,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman.
The PELS program is conducted in cooperation with the University of Richmond. This program is designed for individuals who currently serve in command/executive level positions within their agencies. The curriculum is liberal-arts/humanities based and focused on the study of leadership at an advanced level. The objective of this program is to acquaint participants with best practices in leadership, challenge them to reflect upon their own leadership competency, and examine ways of achieving both personal and professional growth.
The classes are held on the campus of the University of Richmond, and faculty members from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, teach the classes and are drawn from the Robins School of Business, the Management Institute, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, and several other schools within the university.
Previous graduates from the agency include 1st Lt. Christopher Hines, 1st Lt. Russ Wall, Major Bev Tate, 2nd Lt. Jeff Mees (Retired), Captain Marc Caminiti, and 1st Lt. Bruce Domin.
