(June 3, 2013) – The Woodgrove High School boys and girls lacrosse teams saw their seasons come to an end Friday in the VHSL state tournament quarterfinals.
The Wolverine girls (17-3) couldn’t hold a 6-goal lead at home and fell to Osbourn Park, 15-13, while the Wolverine boys (11-8) nearly pulled off an upset on the road, giving Northwest Sectional champion undefeated Battlefield (20-0) a scare before falling, 12-11.
The Woodgrove girls were led by freshmen Nora Bowen and Courtney Oliver with four goals each. Senior Morgan Miller added two goals and an assist and senior Roni Salamone had two goals. Also scoring for the Wolverines was senior Olivia Becker.
Osbourn Park, led by Corinne Wessels seven goals and four assist night, didn’t lead in the contest until the final two minutes. Rebecca Baumstark also had four goals for the Yellow Jackets.
The Woodgrove boys were led by senior Jeremy Kendall with four goals and an assist and senior Kellen McCarthy with four goals. Sophomore Kyle Reilly added two goals for the Wolverines and Sam Weber had a goal. Sophomore Jack Loving had one assist.
Battlefield was led by Hunter Surface with four goals and the deep Bobcat attack had seven different players scored. Phillip Dapen made 13 saves for the Bobcats in net.
