Ashburn, VA (June 17, 2015) – Briar Woods High School recently announced the new Head Coach for Cross Country for the 2015-2016 school year is Kate Spiering. Coach Spiering was an assistant coach this past fall in cross country and was the distance coach with the track teams this spring.
Coach Spiering lettered in both cross country and track & field all four years at Loudoun County High School. She ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field for Messiah College. Where in her freshman year, she helped take the women’s team to the NCAA Division 3 Cross Country National Championships. In that same year, during outdoor track & field season, she made All-Conference in the 10,000M, placing 4th in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. After her Junior year, she transferred to The Art Institute of Washington, thus allowing her to start her marathon career 2 years early. In 2013, Spiering transitioned to Ultra-Marathons (any race that is longer than 26.2 miles), and has been competing at that level ever since.
Coach Spiering stated “I look forward to coaching the Falcons this season and for many seasons to come.” Athletic Director Jerry Carter added, “We are excited to have Kate take over the Cross Country program at Briar Woods. She is a dedicated runner and is anxious to continue working with our students.”
Best wishes Coach Spiering for continue success in the years ahead!
