As early as 6:30 a.m. on the first day of school, LCPS’ 854 school buses will begin traveling the county’s roads and highways delivering students to school. During the 2013-14 school year, these buses are expected to travel more than 9 million miles.
Home-to-school bus transportation is furnished for students in grades K-5 who live more than .8 (eight-tenths) mile from school, for students in grades 6-12 that live more than one mile from school and for any student who would otherwise have to walk to school over a hazardous route.
LCPS Transportation Director, Alvin E. Hampton IV reminds drivers to watch for school buses picking up children and to be aware of children walking or biking to school. Virginia law requires that all vehicles stop for schools buses loading and unloading students.

School Attendance Boundaries Under Review in 2013-2014
Cardinal Ridge Elementary School (ES-21), located at 26155 Bullrun Postoffice Road, adjacent to J. Michael Lunsford Middle School, will open in fall 2014. The opening of Cardinal Ridge Elementary requires the formation of new elementary school attendance zones for the Dulles South area.
The Loudoun County School Board has scheduled a series of meetings to facilitate the necessary attendance zone changes for the greater Ashburn area elementary schools. All of the meetings will be open to the public.
A full schedule of the boundary hearings can be found under the Planning & Legislative Services button under Quick Links on the LCPS website, www.lcps.org.
School Bond Vote on November 5, 2013

This year’s bond requests a total not to exceed $11,950,000 for the Freedom High School addition, Mercer Middle School addition and Loudoun High School stadium renovation.
LCPS’ enrollment is expected to continue increasing annually by more than 2 percent with an enrollment of 70,855 students expected by the start of the 2013-14 school year and 72,826 (2.8% increase) by the start of the 2014-15 school year.
