Ashburn, Va. (March 19, 2017) — Viva Loudoun is proud to sponsor and to cover the NoVA Challenge all-star hoops extravaganza taking place Sunday afternoon, March 19, at Riverside High School in Leesburg.
Most if not all of the finest young boys’ basketball players – high school seniors all – will show off their hardcourt skills in a showcase showdown pitting the cream of Loudoun’s, Fairfax’s, Arlington’s and Prince William’s hoops crops.
It’s a great time.
I’ve personally covered every one of these season-ending all-star classics since basketball coaching veteran and Purcellville resident Kevin Weeren co-founded the NoVA Challenge in 2014.
It’s always a great time.
You get to witness our area’s highest high-flyers throwing down trick dunks and show slams. You get to observe our area’s sharpest sharp-shooters knock down racks of three-pointers like laser-scoped machines. You get to see top players from rival schools working together on the floor, representing Loudoun.
You get to take in not one but two hoops contests pitting one Northern Virginia county versus another. You get to watch the kids play some real offense-first, defense-optional basketball, racking up scores in the 100s…but when things get tight in the final minutes, things get serious.
Fourteen guys from nine high schools are set to represent Loudoun, including Champe’s Dom Fragala, Broad Run’s Anthony Cooper, Tuscarora’s Tique Yarbrough and Nick Ball of your Group 4A state champion Loudoun Valley.
The NoVA Challenge is the perfect bang for basketball season to go out with – and it’s a lot of bang for your buck. Come out to Riverside and see the all-stars with us as we get the stats, quotes, tweets and photos as our Viva Loudoun Hottest Hoops Of The Week, tweeting @VivaLoudoun.
