(March 29, 2014) – The Heritage High School track and field season begins this morning at the Wildcat Invitational and the Pride girls are looking to defend their Dulles District title and the boys are a young team looking for the underclassman to step up and compete.
The Pride girls track and field team is led by the 2013 All-State sprint trio of Maia Llewellyn, Whitney Amo and Ashley Gregory (all seniors). All three are all-region sprinters and return from last year’s top 8 finish in the state 4×100 meter relay. They are also looking for Georgie Mackenzie (1600 meter run and 4×400), Kenzie Scanlon (800 meter run and the 4×400), Sarah Smith (3200 meter run), and Megan Collins (800 meter run and the 1600 meter run) to make a statement this season.
The Pride boys track and field team is a very young team (1 senior) led by dual state qualifier in the 400/220 junior Christian Pelenda. He is one of the top 400 meter runners in the state and looks to learn from last season in order to take the next step.
Coach Douglas Gilbert on the boys and girls season ahead,”Our girls are the defending Dulles District champions, so the outlook moving into new conference 21 is good. Throw in a young and upcoming distance squad led by Georgie Mackenzie and Sarah Smith;and it could be a very exciting year for us. Our boys are a very young team and we look to improve on last year’s conference finish.”
