(July 26, 2013) – Heritage High School senior Nick Fuhrmann has verbally committed to further his baseball career at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA starting in the 2014-2015 school year.
“Throughout my college search, academics was my priority,” said Fuhrmann who currently holds a 4.44 grade point average. “St. Joseph’s offered [academics] as well as a competitive baseball opportunity at the DI level.”
A native of Naples, Italy, Fuhrmann transferred from Freedom High School to Heritage before his sophomore season and quickly made an impact with the Pride.
During the Pride’s postseason run in 2013, which ended with a loss to Loudoun Valley High School in a Region II quarterfinal in Leesburg, Fuhrmann went 7-for-14, with two doubles, a triple and a homerun.
“With strong returners like Zack Hopeck on the mound, Chad Koehler behind the plate and Jack Howard in the infield, we are solid,” Fuhrmann said of the Pride. “Everyone has been putting in good work this offseason and we all have the drive to turn some heads this upcoming season.”
Fuhrmann will look to help the DI Hawks improve on a 26-26 season in 2013 in which they finished just below the middle of the pack in the Atlantic 10.
“I feel that I bring strong offense and defense as well as a team-oriented attitude,” said the 6-foot-1 middle infielder. “Coach Hamburg sees me batting in the middle of the lineup and making a difference.”
