Rochester, NY (May 18, 2016) – Senior setter Kevin McCandless of Rutgers University-Newark received the prestigious ELITE 90 award at the 2016 Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship banquet Thursday, April 21st at the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa in Rochester, N.Y.
The ELITE 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 90 championships.
A Computer Science major, McCandless maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.95-plus in one of the most challenging majors at Rutgers University and was the 2015 Rutgers-Newark Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A Virginia native, the setter was an All-CVC selection for the second-straight season, also earning American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) honorable mention All-American accolades earlier this week.
