Sterling, VA (October 5, 2016) – In a case of Conference 21B Championship déjà-vu, the Heritage Pride golf team, and Loudoun Valley’s Ryan Hammer claimed first place team and individual low-medalist honors at the 2016 Region 4A Golf Championship hosted by Algonkian Golf Club on Tuesday, October 4th.
The tournament featured the following teams: Conference 21A Champion – Sherando, and Runner-up – Woodgrove; Conference 21B Champion – Heritage, and Runner-up – Loudoun Valley; Conference 22 Champion – Fauquier, and Runner-up – Freedom; Conference 21 Champion – E.C. Glass, and Runner-up – Jefferson Forest; and Conference 24 Champion – William Byrd, and Runner-up – Basset.
Heritage, the 2016 Conference 21B regular season and tournament champions outclassed the field with a combined team score of 298. Scoring for the Pride were Eli Newman (72), Hayden Miller (74), Garrett Ganley (76), and Josh Petrillo (76). Nick Rentsch shot a 78, and Aidan Baron an 81. Newman’s 74 claimed 4th place low medalist honors in the championship.
The Pride edged out second place finisher, the E.C. Glass Hilltoppers by 1-stroke. Scoring for the Hilltoppers were Jimmie Massie (71), Conner Burgess (74), Alec Terrell (76), and Ben Ailsworth (78). Massie’s 71 claimed 2nd place low medalist honors in the championship.
The Loudoun Valley Vikings, the 2015 VHSL 4A State Champions, took fourth place with a combined team score of 303. Scoring for the Vikings were Ryan Hammer (70), Sam Ball (75), Max Cave (79), and Mike Morga (79). Bryce Nagaj scored and 81, Josh Bowels an 87. Hammer claimed low medalist first place honors to win the 2016 Region 4A Individual title, and will advance to state competition. Despite Hammer’s stellar individual outing, the Vikings will not be joining the Pride and Hilltoppers to compete for the state team title on October 10-11 at the Tradition Golf Club at Stonehouse, Williamsburg, VA.
The Woodgrove Wolverines, tied for 7th. Scoring for the Wolverines were Kyle Potter (78), Alex Price (79), Alex Wilson (79), and Joey Eastman (79). Kelly Klimek scored an 81, Bobby Stribling an 83. The Freedom Eagles, placed 10th. Scoring for the Eagles were George Clark (79), Mehir Vashitha (83), Joe Skinner (84), and Hunter Capestany (87). Jack Krouse scored an 88, Ashley Nguyen an 89.
The Titan golf team had 4 players competing as individuals in the 90-player field. Quinn Hollister, who shot a career best 73 to tie for 7th individually needed a playoff hole to clinch a berth into the 4A State Tournament. Other Titan scores from the day were Kelvin Shen (74), Max Dyson (80), and Alex Brendes (82) on the par 72 layout.
The Loudoun County Raiders had 2 players competing as individuals. Senior Ryan Monastero scored 72 to place 5th overall and will advance to compete in states; Devon Tessdale scored an 81. John Champe’s Max Gonzales missed the state cut by 3-strokes with a score of 76; teammate Ryan Ranere scored 104.
