Sterling, VA (September 22, 2016) – On Wednesday, September 21st, 1757 Golf Club hosted the 2016 Conference 14 Golf Championship featuring teams from Briar Woods, Broad Run, Potomac Falls, Stone Bridge, and Tuscarora high school.
In addition to winning the Potomac District regular season title, The Briar Woods Falcons won the Conference 14 team title with a combined score of 321. Scoring for the Falcons were Skylar Sload (76), Patrick Gilbride (79), Amman Akram (82), and Cam Audi (84). Sload’s score earned her 3rd place low medalist honors in the tournament.
The Falcons narrowly edged out both the Stone Bridge Bulldogs and Tuscarora Huskies by one stroke (322). As as result the two second place squads competed in a sudden death round to determine who would be joining the Falcons for regional team play.
Tuscarora won the sudden death match to advance to regional team competition. Prior to extras, scoring for the Huskies were Michael Brennan (71), Brian Love (80), J.R. Poole (85), and Jeremy Siu (86). Brennan earned 1st place low medalist honors to win the individual championship.
Scoring for Stone Bridge were Abby Bloom (72), Matt Kapusta (82), Paul Thoppil (83), and Connor Steggerda (85). Bloom earned 2nd place low medalist honors for the championship, and will advance to individual regional competition.
The Potomac Falls Panthers placed 4th with a team score of 339. Scoring for the Panthers were Ray Ellingwood (82), Carter Morris (85), David Taylor (86), and Carlos Olivares (86).
The Broad Run Spartans placed 5th with a team score of 342. Scoring for the Spartans were Mason Sergei (80), Matt Yun (84), Hannah Jonely (85), and Caroline Dennis (93). Sergei will advance to individual regional competition.
The 5A Regional Championship will be hosted by Brambleton Golf Club on Wednesday, September 28th beginning at 9:00am.
