Leesburg (May 20, 2014) – The Stone Bridge High School girls varsity lacrosse team was on a seven game winning streak heading into their first round match up against the Tuscarora Huskies in the Potomac Group playoffs on May 20. The Bulldogs (13-2) added to that streak and ended the Huskies’ season with a 18-13 win on Tuesday night.
Goals from five Huskies (10-7) were not enough to match the Bulldog offense’s impressive night.
According to Stone Bridge head coach Lee Ann Sleece, the Bulldogs scoring night was aided by senior midfielders Taylor Pascale (5 goals), Molly Lausten (2), Megan Ellis (3), Kendall Fitzgerald (2), junior midfielder Hadley Killen (2), and freshman Maria Keener (4) having a breakout game for the Bulldogs.
Senior midfielder Taylor Pascale noted that team work was the most important factor for the Bulldogs’ win.
“We had to support each other and work hard to get our momentum going. After we scored our first few goals, I think that’s what started to put us in our game,” Pascale said.
Being a senior and moving forward in the playoffs for any athlete means a chance to extend their final high school sports season.
“This being the last year to play for Stone Bridge, it isn’t an option for us to lose. I have a huge drive to keep this season going, and with so many seniors on the team, everyone is really giving it their all to keep getting these crucial wins,” Pascale said.
As Tuscarora girls lacrosse team’s season ended, senior low defender Logan Cromwell reflected on her senior season.
“I’m definitely going to miss my teammates, but I know we played our hearts out. We went in to the game saying that we were going to play our hardest for the seniors, and that’s exactly what they team did,” Cromwell said. “I’m happy with the end of my season because I have confidence in the girls next year to go out and play just as hard, if not harder, than this year.”
The Bulldogs will compete in the Potomac Group finals on May 22
