Middleburg, VA (February 20, 2015) – Foxcroft School’s basketball team defeated Tandem Friends, 46-23, Thursday to reach the final of the Delaney Athletic Conference Division II championship for the second year in a row. Unlike last year, though, the girls from Middleburg plan to bring home the title this time!
Foxcroft, 7-0 against conference opponents and 11-5 overall, will meet Randolph-Macon Academy, which defeated Quantico, 45-23 in the other semi. The game will be played at a neutral site, Wakefield School (The Plains, VA), at 4 p.m. on Friday. (Note: this game was originally scheduled for Saturday at Highland School but has been moved up due to the inclement weather forecast for Saturday).
Foxcroft is led by three juniors, all from Virginia: Guard Alex Grace, a three-sport all-state athlete from Purcellville whose first sport is lacrosse, leads the team in scoring; Point guard Pipsy Steyn, a Leesburg resident originally from South Africa, who was MVP of the Foxcroft field hockey team that advanced to the VISAA Division II Final Four last fall; and Center Kat Forrest of Sperryville, who is being recruited by several division I colleges… to play volleyball!
Rounding out the starting five are senior captain Emma Rogers of Reston, a two-time All-DAC Player of the Year in lacrosse, and freshman Mia Moseley, of Centreville, MD. Head Coach Patrick Finn coached Foxcroft’s lacrosse team to the state title last spring; Assistant Fred McMane piloted the volleyball team to its best season ever this fall.
