South Riding, Va. (April 20, 2015) Freedom High School senior Hans Punia announced he was running for the South Riding Proprietary Board of Directors on March 29, 2015, and recently has gained support from his fellow classmates and some faculty.
His website, hans4sr.com, has become a popular visit among community members, gaining 624 page views in its first two days.
On the site, he has listed issues he wants to take on if elected such as constituent services, entertainment, business, payment relief, public transit, and sidewalks/bikes.
“It’s all about constituent services because many people believe the Board is too strict,” Punia said. “I want to be the person who works with homeowners to help them understand the rules and remove unfair ones.”
Punia has been seen shaking hands and chatting with locals at several community events such as the South Riding Spring Fling and Trivia Night.
“The South Riding Proprietary is a homeowner’s association but I try to stay away from that term because I’m not a homeowner myself,” Punia said. “There are two open director seats and four candidates including myself.”
Voting opens April 25 and will continue through May 20 by mail or online. One ballot is mailed to each owner’s home on April 24 with candidate profiles included.
However, Punia’s opponents are being held confidential until April 24 by Town Hall and they would not comment on the election until then.
As of April 11, Punia launched a petition in attempts to bring a Chipotle restaurant to South Riding just off Pinebrook Road in the Avonlea Town Center that will open next year. This motion has helped Punia gain support from his fellow classmates in an effort to win the votes of their homeowner parents.
