Leesburg, VA (November 28, 2014) The Tuscarora Huskies (13-0) continued their unbeaten streak, defeating the Broad Run Spartans (9-4) 35-14 in a regional semi-final football game last night. The Huskies will play the equally unbeaten Massaponax Panthers in the 5A Championship game next week (date/time TBD). The Panthers defeated the Stone Bridge Bulldogs 29-25 in a thrilling come from behind victory yesterday in Fredricksburg.
The Huskies hitched their wagon to the always reliable Noah Reimers, who sandwiched two 50+ yard runs around a 37 carry, 219 yard 4 TD performance to lead the Huskies to victory. Reimers, who has verbally committed to play for Harvard next year, took off for his first score with a 54-yard run on the game’s first series and a 7-0 lead. Noah finished the Husky scoring early in the 4th quarter on a 53-yard run and a 35-7 lead.
Tuscarora was going to make sure the semi-finals were not a repeat of their regular season match-up with Broad Run by bottling up Spartan QB Brady Reitzel today. During their previous game, Retizel had staked a 21-7 lead before the Huskies were saved by Reimers school record 377-yard performance. While the Huskies won that game 35-28, Coach Chalmers was looking to keep his post Thanksgiving indigestion at bay by establishing the tempo early.
The Huskies made sure the Tums weren’t needed as they established a 28-7 lead in the third quarter and were able to finish the day early.
This marks the second year in a row that the Spartans have lost in the semi-final game.
