(Sept. 3, 2013) – 11 of the 13 area football teams were in action over the holiday weekend with seven teams opening with wins:
Bishop Ireton 21, Park View 2
The Skinny: The Patriots led 2-0 at the half after blocking a punt out of the end zone in the first quarter but gave up three TDs in the second half to fall in this opener on the road. JR Henry Argueta led Park View in rushing with 113 yards on 23 carries.
Briar Woods 63, Brooke Point 13
The Skinny: Falcons make 5A debut and it looks an awful lot like 4A as BWoods crushes Brooke Point for a 30th straight victory. Senior QB Trace McSorley rushed for a score and threw three TDs in the first half. McSorley finished with 50 yards rushing on six carries and threw for 202 yards on 10 of 14. Melvin Holland, Jr., caught two TDs.
Broad Run 43, B.T. Washington 22
The Skinny: Spartans run away early for win in Hampton Roads area. Da’Qwan Earl had 87 yards on 11 carries and scored three times for the Spartans. Brady Reitzel opened his JR season at QB for Broad Run with a 5 of 9 for 127 yards performance and two TDs to Travis Fulgham and Chuck Davis.
Central-Woodstock 42, John Champe 0
The Skinny: Knights still looking for first varsity victory after falling at home in opener to Conference 28 foe.
Heritage 43, James Wood 29
The Skinny: Reed Prosser debuts for Pride progam as head coach with win. Pride QB Cameron Knight had a very good night, throwing for 193 yards on 12 of 20 with two TD passes but senior Juston Bethea was the star of the night for the Pride with not one, but two punt returns for scores and two TD receptions for a 4-TD opener!
Loudoun County 14, Fauquier 6
The Skinny: Tae Crews-Naylor tossed TD passes to A.J. Bourscheid and Jake Frye as the Raiders won their opener on the road. Crews finished the night with 224 yards passing on 19 of 26.
Potomac Falls 23, Dominion 19

Tuscarora 31, Kettle Run 21
The Skinny: Huskies open with strong win against playoff contender Kettle Run. JR Noah Reimers had a huge game with 173 yards rushing on 25 carries including a 63-yard TD run.
Woodgrove 35, Freedom 0
The Skinny: Josh Sweet picked right up to where he left off last year as the Wolverine senior RB rushed for four first half touchdowns and finished with 125 yards rushing on just nine carries. “Sweet T” now has 36 career rushing TDs for Woodgrove.
