Tuscaloosa, AL (September 7, 2016) – Alabama defensive end, Jonathan Allen, formerly of Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn was named football’s SEC Player of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 6th.
During the Crimson Tide’s 52-6 opening day victory over the USC Trojans, Allen’s relentless pressure resulted in four tackles, two sacks, and two batted down passes while limiting the Trojans to 194 net yards.
After leading the 2015 NCAA College Football National Champions in both tackles for loss (14.5) and sacks (12) last season, and earning First Team All-SEC recognition his past two years at Alabama, Allen surprised many by opting to return to Tuscaloosa for his senior campaign.
Like most of the Crimson Tide’s top players, Allen signed as a highly touted prep. As a captain of the Stone Bridge football team in Ashburn, VA, he was named Virginia’s Gatorade Football Player of the Year following a senior season in which he recorded an astounding 119 tackles with 9.0 sacks, six fumble recoveries, eight pass breakups, six blocked kicks and seven pass breakups as a defensive end.
