(July 19, 2013) – Loudoun residents are invited to participate in the last Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event for the summer on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Heritage High School, 520 Evergreen Mill Road, Leesburg, VA 20175, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Loudoun residents are welcome to bring Household Hazardous Waste from their homes to these events. HHW includes (but is not limited to): fluorescent bulbs, household batteries, oil-based paints/stains/varnishes, paint thinners, metal polishes, rust removers, wood preservatives, furniture polish, waxes, pesticides/insecticides/herbicides, pool chemicals, and old fuels including gas/oil mixes.
Latex or water-based paints can be disposed of in your regular trash after allowing it to harden by mixing in mulch or kitty litter, allowing it to air-dry, or pouring it onto newspaper to dry. Latex paint may also be disposed of at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility (Loudoun County landfill) for a fee.
Used motor oil, antifreeze, automobile batteries, lead-acid batteries and propane tanks will not be accepted at HHW collection events. These materials are accepted at the Loudoun County Landfill at 21101 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg, VA 20175. For more information on the Loudoun County Landfill, visit www.loudoun.gov/landfill.
