Loudoun Va. (September 10, 2014) – Loudoun County businesses and residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of their hazardous waste at two separate upcoming events.
Businesses in Loudoun interested in disposing of hazardous waste can visit www.loudoun.gov/bhwp to learn about the Business Hazardous Waste Program (BHWP) and other private disposal options. There will be a BHWP event on Friday, October 10, 2014, at the Loudoun County landfill from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interested businesses who qualify for the program must pre-register by close of businessWednesday, October 8, 2014.
Loudoun residents are invited to participate in the next Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Harmony Park and Ride, 39464 East Colonial Highway, Hamilton, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Loudoun residents are welcome to bring HHW from their homes to these events. HHW includes (but is not limited to): fluorescent bulbs, household batteries, oil-based paints/stains/varnishes, paint thinners, metal polishes, rust removers, wood preservatives, furniture polish, waxes, pesticides/insecticides/
herbicides, pool chemicals, and old fuels including gas/oil mixes.
Please note that participants must have proof of Loudoun County residency such as a Loudoun County vehicle decal or applicable town decal. Individual households are limited to typical household quantities:
- Fifteen containers of liquid (1 gallon container size) HHW
- Forty pounds of solid HHW
Latex or water-based paints can be disposed of in regular trash after thickening by mixing in mulch or kitty litter. Latex paint may also be disposed of at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility, 21101 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg, on all normal operating days for a fee.
Used motor oil, antifreeze, automobile batteries, lead-acid batteries and propane tanks will not be accepted at HHW collection events. These materials are also accepted at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility. For more information, visit www.loudoun.gov/landfill.
