Loudoun County, Va. (September 15, 2014) – The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services has announced an additional managed deer hunt for two additional county properties.
A previously-announced hunt is scheduled at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve in October. The new hunt – scheduled for November 7, 14, and 21, 2014 – will take place at Bles Park, 44830 Riverside Parkway, Ashburn, Va., and Edgar Tillett Memorial Park, 21561 Belmont Ridge Road, Ashburn, Va.
The carrying capacity of the deer at these park sites has been exceeded. The number of deer needs to be reduced in order to prevent degradation of natural resources and negative impacts to the health of the herd.
The November hunt is an archery-only event, and hunters will be required to use their own tags. Hunters will be allowed to harvest a buck, with a minimum of four points total, after harvesting at least one antlerless deer.
Hunters will be selected through a lottery registration, which ends at 12:00 a.m. (midnight) October 12. Interested hunters can register online at www.loudoun.gov/webtrac. In-person registration will also be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the PRCS Administrative Office, 20145 Ashbrook Place, Ashburn, VA. Lottery chances are $10 for Loudoun residents and $15 for non-residents. There is no limit on the number
of chances purchased.
Hunters and alternates selected through the lottery will be notified October 13. All participants must have a Virginia hunting license, pass a qualifier at local ranges, purchase a Loudoun County hunting permit ($30) by October 25 at www.loudoun.gov/webtrac, and attend a mandatory orientation.
