Ashburn, VA (December 12, 2016) – The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced a total of 881 student-athletes earning All-Academic honors following the 2015-16 academic year, including 11 Christopher Newport football players in the program’s first year as an associate member of the conference. A student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior competing in an NJAC-sponsored sport while achieving a minimum grade point average of 3.20.
After the first season as members of the NJAC, the Christopher Newport football program was well represented on the 2015-16 NJAC All-Academic Team. Among associate members of the conference, CNU tied with Southern Virginia for the most football players honored by the conference with 11 student-athletes.
The Captains’ contingent was headlined by two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection David Furrow, a senior offensive lineman from Warsaw, Va. Furrow graduated with a degree in Cellular, Molecular & Physiological Biology and earned All-Conference honors in his final season. Joining Furrow were two more All-Conference selections as senior cornerback Cameron Barlow and junior Colin Moog added to their exceptional on-field performances with stellar efforts in the classroom.

Combining the NJAC All-Academic Team honorees with the Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selections announced last week, a grand total of 199 total student-athletes were honored for their academic achievement in 2015-16.
