Ashburn, VA (December 11, 2016) – Seniors Murielle Tiernan and Candace Cephers of the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team were honored with 2016 All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) awards, as selected by the league’s coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
Tiernan, a 2013 Stone Bridge graduate, was named to the All-ACC First Team list for the third year in a row.
Tiernan, a native of Ashburn, Virginia, is tied for first in the conference with five game-winning goals on the year. She also ranks fifth in the league with 10 goals and paces the squad with 20 points. Tiernan now has 49 career goals and 112 career points, both atop the all-time lists at Virginia Tech. She also leads the all-time lists in game-winning goals (23) and multiple goal games (9) and is tied for seventh in assists (14).
Tiernan, a 2016 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy candidate, was most recently named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Oct. 27. The Academic All-District Team award honors the nation’s top student-athletes for their performances on and off the field.
Virginia Tech concluded its 2016 regular season with an 11-5-3 overall record and a 3-4-3 mark in ACC play.
