Ashburn, VA (March 22, 2017) – Heritage Alumni and Costal Carolina pitcher Zack Hopeck struck out a career high six and only allowed two hits over eight innings as #18 Coastal Carolina won its fifth straight with a 6-1 victory over San Francisco in the final game of the Tidelands Health Classic at Springs Brooks Stadium.
The Chanticleers, playing their 14th game in a 17-day span, improve to 9-5 overall thanks to five straight solid pitching performances.
Coastal struck out 14 Seahawks in a 4-1 win at UNC Wilmington on Wednesday before each of CCU’s four weekend starters established career highs in strikeouts. First, Alex Cunningham set a CCU single-game record with 14 K’s Friday. On Saturday, Andrew Beckwith had a career-high 10 strikeouts versus Winthrop before Jason Bilous fanned eight versus Albany in the nightcap.
Sunday, while Hopeck (1-1) only allowed two hits, both were doubles in the second inning that led to the Dons’ lone run. Hopeck also only allowed one walk with his six strikeouts over eight innings.
