Leesburg, VA (July 13, 2016) – Stone Bridge rising-senior, Jordan Lee, has verbally committed to play lacrosse for Christopher Newport University (CNU) beginning in the 2017-2018 academic school year.
“My recruiting experience was very diverse in the sense of who was looking at me, but I knew what I was looking for, said Lee. I had interest from all levels: D1, D2 and D3, but I wanted to find the best match for both academics and lacrosse.” Jordan had several factors that went into making his decision to commit to CNU. The school size, academic majors offered, the school’s academic reputation, Coach Thompson’s vision and reputation and of course the way lacrosse is played at CNU. The key factor was that Lee believes “It’s a good fit for me!”
Christopher Newport University is located on a 260-acre campus in Newport News, Virginia. With more than 80 areas of study, from biology to business administration and political science to the performing arts, CNU offers a broad selection of paths to choose from for one’s educational journey. U.S. News and World Report lists CNU 18th among all regional universities and 7th among public regional universities in the South.
Lee’s head lacrosse coach will be Mikey Thompson. Lee is Coach Thompson’s first recruit as official head coach, as he spent the past four years as an assistant coach with the Captains. Under Thompson’s guidance, the Captains have quickly established themselves as a contender in the CAC and one of the up-and-coming lacrosse programs in the region. During CNU’s first year in the Capital, the squad registered a 10-6 overall record, including a victory over No. 2 Salisbury on April 2, which marked the Sea Gulls’ first regular season conference loss since 2011. A year later, Thompson helped lead Christopher Newport to a program-best 11-5 mark in 2015. Along the way, the Captains finished third in the regular season conference standings after compiling a 6-2 record in league action. Lee will join Freedom High School’s Nicholas Cavalheri and Dominion High School’s Andrew Ashley and Trevor Royce on the Captains lacrosse squad.
Lee, a JV team captain in his sophomore year and 2016 VHSL 5A Region Champion, has played lacrosse for eight years. During this time, when asked about his fondest memories on the field, Lee shared, “My fondest memories are being around such a great group of guys. We are like a family and it showed on the field because we were unselfish and played as a team and not individuals. With this teamwork, we were able to win a lot of games including a state championship in 2015. Jordan also was selected and played for Middleburg Academy’s JV Lacrosse Team as an 8th grader.
Academically, Jordan achieved honors in the social science and math honor society as well as the National Honor Society, while maintaining a GPA above 3.5 throughout his high school career.
“I am thankful for my parents and family, Coach Mitchell, and my teammates for pushing me to be successful on the field and off. I had a lot of support and it helped me to get better every practice and every game. I am also thankful for my trainer, Darnerien McCants of Pro Power Performance, who has trained me since I was 11 to be a better person and athlete through discipline and hard work, said Lee.”
Jordan’s expectations going into his first year at CNU are to “work hard, learn how to play at the next level, and enjoy being around the team like a family.”
Asked what advice he would give others pursing their dreams, Jordan shared, “Never give up and always surround yourself with the people that help you the most, and support you with positive and honest feedback.”
Please join us in wishing Jordan Lee very best on the lacrosse pitch and in the classroom as he pursues a degree in Business and Finance from CNU.
