(November 18, 2013) – Broad Run High School senior Jimmy Hennessey has committed to continue his lacrosse career at Cabrini College starting in the 2014-2015 school year.
“It feels great being officially committed. Now I can put myself on cruise control as I finish out my senior year and just focus on getting prepared for the next level,” the 6-foot Hennessey said. “It’s located outside of Philly, so it’s a great location and practically my whole family lives in that area.”
Located just 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Cabrini is renowned for their lacrosse program which was the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2013 after the Cavaliers finished the season 15-4 and 6-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
“The lacrosse program is one of the top Division III programs in the country,” said Hennessey who will play long-pole defense for the Cavaliers. “I felt like I fit in great with the guys on the team, I really liked the coaches, and it’s a very good school.”
Last spring, Cabrini secured a conference championship before falling to the No. 3 Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Broad Run Spartans also made headway in their biggest tournament of 2013 as they carried a 7-3 Cedar Run District record with them all the way to a VHSL state semifinal where they lost to the Dominion Titans.
Hennessey – who plans to shock the critics during the Spartans’ 2014 season – will be assisted by teammate and Christopher Newport commit Will Ervin.
“My expectations for Broad Run are very high this year,” said Hennessey who plays the club season for Cavalier Lacrosse. “We made it to the state playoffs last year, and we’re bringing back a lot of guys. We have a few holes that need to be filled, but I feel that we are going to surprise a lot of people this year.”
