(Jan. 28, 2014) – Broad Run High School graduate Stephanie Garcia won the Women’s 1609 Meters Steeplechase Elite/Pro race over the weekend at the New Balance Games in New York City at The Armory. Garcia ran a 4:48.97 to win the event.
Garcia graduated from Broad Run in 2006 where she had Personal Records of 18:53 in the cross country 5K, 5:09.52 in the 1600 meters and 11:16.21 in the 3200 meters. She went onto the University of Virginia where she improved her 5K time to 17:05.67 and she finished second in the NCAA 3K Steeplechase here senior year with a 9:47.29.
In 2011, Garcia represented the United States at the World Championships in Dageu, South Korea.
Garcia now runs professionally for New Balance and has a 3K Steeplechase PR of 9:45.78 set at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York last May. She trains with the Furman Elite post-collegiate club in South Carolina.
