(October 14, 2013) – Broad Run High School boys senior lacrosse captain Will Ervin has verbally committed to play for NCAA Division III Christopher Newport University in 2014-15. Ervin spent Columbus Day weekend in Newport News with the Captains for his official visit.
“I’m excited to see how I will be living next year at Christopher Newport and how much of a different environment college is than high school both on and off of the lacrosse field,” said the 6-foot-3 senior.
The transition from high school to college for some can be a challenge, but Ervin is excited about the academia and small class sizes at the school which has just over 5,000 students enrolled. Ervin also felt comfortable with the Captains’ athletic programs.
“I loved how beautiful the campus was and how nice the lacrosse facilities were,” said Ervin who will play midfield for CNU. “I felt like Christopher Newport’s lacrosse program is growing rapidly and will be very dominant in the near future. Coach Todd Boward was very welcoming and made me feel like I could make a strong contribution to the team.”
Ervin plans to impact the lacrosse program from day one and will do so alongside of Dominion’s Andrew Ashley who has also committed to play for the Captains next school year.
Ervin’s drive to win was well documented throughout the 2013 season, as he helped the Spartans to a state quarterfinal which they lost to Ashley and the Titans. Ervin scored a goal in the contest.
“Personally, I’d like to be a better leader and a team captain this year,” said Ervin who also plays for Cavalier Lacrosse. “My goal is to be first team All-District and first team All-Region and ultimately lead Broad Run to a state championship.”
