Ashburn, Va. (March 21, 2015) – Caroline Spring, Zac Kish and Tom Longabaugh of the New York University women’s and men’s track & field teams were each honored as Athletes of the Week by the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday, March 9.
Spring was the top performer for the women over the weekend, as the Violets competed at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, at the Armory in Manhattan. The senior sprinter competed in the 500m, placing fifth overall. Spring was victorious in her heat, notching a season-best 1:18.72, which was just 1.3 seconds shy of her own program record.
Kish participated in both the distance medley relay and the 800m for the men over the weekend. The senior midle distance runner was a member of NYU’s DMR team on Friday that took second place with a season-best 10:09.26. That time ranks among the top-30 nationally in Division III this season. On Saturday, Kish placed ninth overall in the 800m, finishing in a time of 1:55.34.
Longabaugh placed sixth out of 21 pole vaulters on Friday, clearing a personal-best height of 4.52m. The senior has been inching ever closer to the program record of 4.57m, set during the 1967 season.
It is the first UAA honor of the season for all three Violets, as well as the first of the career for both Spring and Longabaugh. Kish now has three for his career.
