Ashburn, Va (March 21, 2015) – Freshman Jordan Foster and sophomore Cassie Smith both scored to lead the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team past Lincoln Memorial, 2-1, on Saturday in the Colonels’ first home game of the spring practice season.
Foster got the Colonels on the board in the 36th minute when she finished a deflected shot from Smith. Foster played in 13 games in the fall and finished the season with one assist.
Smith – EKU’s leading scorer with seven goals during the fall – gave the Colonels some breathing room with an insurance goal in the 50th minute. The goal was the result of a pretty build-up, as junior Amani Thomas played the ball to freshman Emmi Carroll, who flicked it to a wide-open freshman Logan Harvey. Harvey got to the right endline and crossed it to junior Mikala Ferguson. Ferguson’s shot deflected far post, but Smith was there to finish it off.
LMU scored in the 80th minute to pull within one, but EKU held on for the victory.
The Colonels will continue the spring season by hosting Wright State this Saturday, March 21, at 2:00 p.m.
